Tourism is a people business. A destination experience is enriched by the personal encounters. The community that is often forgotten is the resident comunity - the real host community; many of whom are in regular contact with prospective and actual visitors to a place. hello BC and a few other destinations have shown customer's appreciation of employee blogs; TripAdvisor, IGOUGO etc etc have shown traveller's interest in other traveller's comments and recommendations. This field is wide open and limited by our imagination and understanding of customer needs, interests and circumstances....We've barely scratched the surface....

Dear KLM team
I need to thank you for the great effort you're offering to all the KLM passenger
I travelled to London by Air France which was great & on my way back I travelled on KLM airlines which I found it amazing
My KLM flight # was 0553 on the 8th of November from Amsterdam to Cairo
As any human I felt fainted during the plane taking off & then I've met this angel called Anna Van Katz (one of your air hostess) & since she felt I'm tired, she started to take care of me & check me every 5 minutes till we arrive to Cairo
She hasn't only took care of me but she also gave me a good reputation about the Holland people, & I already started to plan to visit Holland the next time to see those generous people & this beautiful country where Anna came from
I feel that this's the less thing I could do to Anna, & I'm asking you the possibility to send my email to her supervisor to see how great she is
Thanks to KLM, thanks to Anna,
Eman

Jens - I'm be interested in your views on British Airaways' social media initiative www.metrotwin.com. It's a UGC approach that makes it easy for anyone who travels between London and New York to find the best places to enrich their experience, and enables users to create bookmarks of only the best places to experience in both cities with a clever differentiator called 'twinning' that goes much further than the offline analogue that pairs villages in different countries.
It'll be interesting to see which one of the two main approaches will succeed - networking or UGC/recommendation engines.
